Why Interior Design and Scent Are The Perfect Match...
When it comes to interior design, do you find yourself focussing on aspects such as colour schemes, fabrics, and accessories? Something that is often overlooked is the importance of scent in creating a truly inviting space...
Think about it: when you walk into a friend's home, a shop, or your favourite hotel the first thing you notice is often the smell right? That's because scent has a powerful effect on our emotions and memories. A well-chosen scent will make us feel relaxed, energized, or even nostalgic.
So how can you incorporate scent into your interior design plans? Here are a few of my favourite tips and tricks that I have done in my home:
Think beyond candles: While candles are a popular way to introduce scent into a room, there are other options available. Reed diffusers, wax melts or room sprays are in my opinion all great alternatives that come in a wide range of scents and styles.
Consider your colour palette: What I do when choosing scents for your space, is think about the colours you've used in your home decor. For example, a room with earthy tones like brown and green might pair well with a woodsy more masculine scent, while a bright or light coloured room might benefit from a vibrant citrus or floral fragrance.
Match the mood: Different scents can evoke different emotions and moods. Lavender, known for its calming properties is a great choice for bedrooms or bathrooms, while peppermint that's invigorating might be better suited for a home gym or home office or workspace.
Incorporating scent into your interior design scheme is an easy and effective way to elevate your space. Whether you prefer warm and cosy scents or fresh and floral fragrances, there's a perfect match out there for every room in your home. So start indulging your senses - your space (and your nose) will thank you for it!
